The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing replay systems.
Replay systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.
Competitors are granted the ability to contest certain decisions from the official, mirroring the practice already in place at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system is slated for use on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles contests.
This move comes just a year after the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the umpire to review other situations, including:
- If a ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
- Potential interference end of a rally.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a player can ask for.
A Recent Example
An illustrative incident occurred in a recent tournament recently, where a top player used the review system against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules effectively."
The umpire watched a video and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its events.
Additional Innovations
Another innovation at Wimbledon this year involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where spectators have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was in or out.
Finally, with exactly a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
