A comeback Medvedev won his first trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden title after the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an better service.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

He defended 4 early-game break points in a close final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
