The European Union might “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the United States on five Europeans involved in fighting online hate and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
EU Officials Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders including the French president charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions were placed on figures that were at the heart of efforts to enact legislation regulating American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
